Tern Harbor Marina
Weymouth, Massachusetts

This project involved geotechnical exploration and design for two new retaining structures. A 400-foot long anchored bulkhead with a 21-foot vertical exposure was designed to replace an existing bulkhead wall which will become obsolete with plans for dredging near the marina. A 100-foot long cantilever wall with a nine-foot vertical exposure was also designed to improve the storage capacity of the marina.

This project involved performing a geotechnical design with construction oversight for two new bulkhead structures for the Bass River Marina. A 130-foot long anchored bulkhead with a 14-foot vertical exposure was designed and constructed in areas were travel lift usage was expected. The anchorage for the bulkhead was provided by helical anchors attached to the back of the wall. Load testing of the anchors were performed as part of the design validation phase of the project. In pedestrian areas a 145-foot long cantilever bulkhead with a 12-foot vertical exposure was designed.

A geotechnical analysis was conducted for the 420-foot long by 8-foot high cantilever wall. The analysis included checking the sliding stability, overturning stability, bearing capacity, and global stability of the wall.

Massachusetts Dam Inspection
Eastern Massachusetts

Deere & Ault Consultants performed visual inspections in accordance with Massachusetts General Law for 23 dams in eastern Massachusetts. The work included preparing the checklists and Inspection/ Evaluation Reports required by the Office of Dam Safety (Department of Conservation and Recreation).

This project involved geotechnical exploration and design for two new anchored bulkhead structures to replace the failed bulkhead and to allow for dredging against the new bulkhead. The new structures include a 300-foot long bulkhead with a 31-foot vertical exposure, and a 500-foot long bulkhead with a 21-foot vertical exposure. The bulkheads were designed for a 1,000 psf surcharge, earthquake loading, earth loads, and tidal changes. Anchorage systems include sheetpiling and tiebacks.
